Apollo Command Module Environmental Control System Valve Shutoff

Cm_switch_1

This Environmental Control System valve was designed for the Apollo Block I CSM Left Hand Equipment Bay (LHEB) Panel 207 (ECS Girth Frame Shelf Controls). The valve was designed to be manually controlled by a T-handle tool. It would have been used either as a Glycol Reservoir Shutoff Valve, Glycol Reservoir Outlet Valve and Glycol Reservoir Bypass valve (the valve design was identical in all three cases and co-occupied the same panel).

The valves were operated to direct water-glycol flow through the reservoir during pre-launch and ascent phases (water glycol provided primary cooling to the CSM).  The panel was exchanged with a redesigned configuration for Block II, was re-labeled Panel 326, and used different valve technology.

Contract: NAS 9-150 (Apollo CSM), Manufacturer: AIRESEARCH, No. 828740-1-1. NASA 004000-02S111 / NAA SCD ME 284-0191-0001.
